All about your transfer at Schiphol

Whether you’ve got to make a dash for your next flight or you have several hours to spare, you of course want your transfer at Schiphol to go as smoothly as possible. Where can you find out which gate to go to for your connecting flight? Do you need to go through security again? Do you have to collect your baggage and check in again? Read this blog to find out the answers to these questions and more!

Find your connecting flight

As soon as you land and the cabin crew announce that you can turn on your phone, go online and check the latest information about your next flight. Enter your flight details here to see your gate number and boarding time. There’s also a Schiphol app where it’s possible to save your flight and get an alert when there’s updates. If you don’t have access to the internet, no worries. We have free Wi-Fi at the airport and you’ll find many monitors displaying flight information.

Tip: In the event that you miss your connecting flight or your flight is cancelled, go to your airline’s transfer desk and a member of staff will be happy to assist.

Boarding pass and baggage

Most of the time, you’ll receive your boarding pass for your connecting flight when you check in for your first flight. This means you don’t have to check in again for your next flight. If you haven’t received it, you can go to the transfer desk of the airline you’re flying with to collect it. Or, if you’re travelling with KLM or a codeshare partner, you can use one of the self-service machines.

Your baggage will usually be sent to your connecting flight automatically. The only exception is if you’re travelling on two separate tickets. In that case, your bags will be delivered to baggage reclaim and you’ll need to collect your baggage from the belt and check it in again.

Go to your gate

You can find out which gate you need to go by entering your flight details here. There are also monitors throughout the terminal displaying the gate number for your connecting flight. Once you know where to go, follow the yellow signs to your gate. Need a little extra help? You can always find your way quickly and easily using our handy interactive map or simply ask a Schiphol employee to point you in the right direction.

Tip: If you are transferring through Schiphol to a non-Schengen country, you’ll need to go through additional security checks. This may require more time.

Need assistance?

If you indicated that you need help with your transfer at Schiphol at the time you booked your trip, our assistants will be ready and waiting to help. Once you’ve landed, they will meet you at the gate you landed at and guide you to the departure gate for your connecting flight.

Longer transfer time

You may sometimes have a few hours at the airport before your connecting flight departs. Luckily, there’s enough to keep you entertained at Schiphol, including a wide range of shops and restaurants. We also have plenty of seating areas where you can relax between flights and a meditation centre.
