Experience a great day out at Schiphol

A nice cup of coffee on the Panorama Terrace, spotting planes together near the Polderbaan and taking a photo in a real aircraft engine – even if you're not travelling, you don't want to miss a day out at Schiphol! Will you be visiting us soon? Read this blog to find out what you can see and do.

Panorama Terrace

Do you want to do some plane spotting or perhaps just enjoy a wonderful view of the apron? Then the Panorama Terrace is the place to be! And you can enjoy it for free. There's a real KLM Fokker 100 on the terrace. Get inside and feel what it's like to fly in a plane or even be a pilot (Please note that the Fokker 100 is closed temporarily for maintenance).

Ready for a tasty lunch among the Boeings and Airbuses? Come to the Panorama Restaurant. From coffee and tea to cakes and toasties, your food will taste even better with this fantastic view.

Shopping and food

Whether you want a new outfit, fine perfumes or typical Dutch products from HEMA, you can shop to your heart's content at Schiphol Plaza. There's dozens of shops before the security check, which means you can indulge in some retail therapy without having to book a flight. Tired from all that shopping? Head to Per Tutti for a delicious pizza or discover the world-famous drinks at Bubble Tea. Find out about all the options here.

A real jet engine

While you’re shopping, don’t forget to make a pit stop at Planes@Plaza. This shop, in the shape of a plane, is a real eyecatcher at Schiphol. Explore the cockpit of a real aircraft or take a selfie in the big DC-10 jet engine. You’ll never get as close as this again!

Control tower

Time to get some fresh air. Just outside Schiphol Plaza, on Jan Dellaertplein, you’ll see the ultimate Schiphol icon: the control tower. If you look closely at the top, you might even see Air Traffic Control the Netherlands colleagues hard at work. Their task is to ensure that all aircraft can take off and land safely at our airport.

Spotting at Schiphol

On to the next stop. It’s high time to watch the planes taking off and landing – you have a front row seat at the spotter zones at Schiphol! The Polderbaan Runway is most frequently used, so it’s the perfect place to spot planes. The Polderbaan spotter zone is at the end of IJweg, to the west of the runway. Use the postcode 2141 CN when navigating there. Still want to see more? Discover other great locations here.

Share your photos

As you can see, there’s lots to do at our airport, even when you aren’t actually flying. We hope you have a great day out at Schiphol. And if you take nice photos, don’t hesitate to share them with us on Facebook or Instagram.

Very yummy
