News  ·  16 JulyPreparatory works at temporary storage sites

The observant viewer may have already seen them: excavators and shovels in the area where the temporary storage facilities (TTOPs) are for PFAS-containing soil. Let us tell you more about the work we’ve been doing.

We’re in the process of installing electrical lines and a drainage route

The area currently has no electricity supply. This is of course necessary for the pumps when we install the soil treatment facility, and so that our colleagues have power. The entire operation on the site will be electric and therefore emission-free. That’s why a hole has been dug at the outdoor area at P7 and TTOP1, and why cables have been laid. This is the main electrical line to which we can connect distribution boxes. Below is a map showing the location of the TTOPs.

We have 'pre-loaded' the land

When we install the soil treatment facility, we obviously do not want the ground underneath to subside. This would cause construction problems. That’s why the site where the facility will be located is pre-loaded. Using shovels and tractors, we took soil from the TTOP5 site. We therefore did not have to use soil from an external source.

Trees are also planned for the site

The permit for landscape integration required us to plant trees. There were trees left over from the DTOP soil depot site. Instead of destroying these trees, we reused them.

We do all work at our own risk

All work that is currently being done is permit-free or only subject to a reporting obligation. We did that and the report was approved. We are still awaiting the permit for the development of the site and for installing the soil treatment facility. If we don’t get these permits, it’s at our own expense. We are prepared to take that risk. If we do receive the permits, these preparations will allow us to start remediating the soil faster.
