News  ·  6 SeptemberWork on the renovation of Schiphol's bus station begins

The bus station at Schiphol is going to be fully renovated over the coming years. The first work activities began this week. Travellers will be able to access the bus station throughout the renovation period. As of 2027, they will make use of the new bus station with a large, covered bus platform and three new sets of stairs to the train platforms.

This year, work will primarily be done to make new temporary bus stops so that bus traffic can continue during the project. These bus stops will be put into operation in the spring of 2025. Buses at the temporary stops are in a different location than travellers are accustomed to. Schiphol will direct travellers to the correct bus stops by way of signage and information at the stops.

To keep disruption for travellers to a minimum the contractor will fence the area off with construction hoardings. Initially these will fence off specific areas, but after the temporary stops have been put into use there will be a large work area at the existing bus station. Shielded walkways will be constructed for travellers so that they can walk past the work area to the bus and train stations safely.

Car and bicycle parking close to bus station

As part of the work to make this renovation possible, the P1/P6 car park exit is being relocated. Motorists will be diverted with temporary signage. Travellers and employees who come to the airport by bicycle can park at the new temporary bike shed at Mercuriusplein.

Work in phases

We will be working on the bus station in phases. The preparatory work on the temporary bicycle shed, cables and pipes has recently been completed. In order to make room for the renovation, a number of transport functions have been moved to the Koepelstraat arrival passage. Taxis ordered by app, crew transport and coaches have been given a permanent place here.

New bus station

The new bus station is going to be one large, covered island platform with 20 bus stops, which means space for more buses. Travellers will also enjoy more room when waiting for the bus. After the renovation, transferring between bus and train will be easier. Three new stairways will soon directly connect the bus station to the train platforms below, enabling travellers to transfer directly between bus and train. Gates will be placed around these stairs to check in and out. There will also be a new bicycle shed with space for approximately 500 bicycles, where travellers and employees can park their bikes. The surrounding roads will be redesigned and connected to the new bus station. The renovation of the bus station at Schiphol is a collaboration between Schiphol and the The Amsterdam Regional Transport Authority (Vervoerregio Amsterdam).
