News  ·  15 AugustWork begins at new baggage basement location

This month, Schiphol began the first work activities at and around the new baggage basement location. We are relocating catering outlets, service points and shops, and we are opening a new passageway for passengers so that we can remove the existing one. In addition, we are rerouting Rinze Hofstraweg. All of this is necessary so that we have the space to build the new baggage basement.

New passenger link between piers B and C

The passageway between the BC corridor (the current route between Pier B and Pier C) and Pier B is being partially removed. From the end of September, passengers will walk another route when walking between piers B and C: the BC Link. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be preparing the BC Link for this new route for passengers. The work activities include installing moving walkways, hanging up media and art installations and tackling the electrical systems.

B Pier shops

Several shops along the existing BC Corridor are being dismantled and relocated so that the corridor can be closed off to passengers. Later on in the year, new BRUNA, Kappé and Grab Fly shops will open at a different location at Pier B. Passengers will be able to find these new locations more easily and accessibility will be improved. We will complete the work on these shops in the spring of 2025.

By starting initial site work and relocations now, we are ensuring that we will have room to build the new baggage basement. We expect the final design for the baggage basement to be ready by mid-2026 and after that we can start construction.

By building this new baggage basement and renovating the existing one, Schiphol is ensuring both operational continuity and improved working conditions for baggage employees. Innovative solutions in the fields of automation and artificial intelligence will provide further support to baggage staff in the future.
