Over the past few years, Schiphol has been actively involved in enhancing processes within the air cargo industry. A significant part of these improvements is being realized through the Schiphol Cargo Mainport Program (SCMP). In collaboration with the cargo community, an initiative was launched to make import processes safer and more efficient, leading to the 'Secure Import' project.

Transport and logistics service providers are vulnerable for the undermining effect of criminality activity. Air freight in particular, because it is mainly high-quality and expensive products that are transported by air. Logistics companies and their employees are experiencing increasing problems due to criminal activities in the transport of cargo from and to mainport Schiphol. Logistics employees must be able to do their job without threats or intimidation.
The community has therefore made a joint effort to thoroughly redesign the operational processes surrounding imports. The result is a new set of agreements specifically developed for import carriers and freight forwarders at Schiphol. This agreement framework forms the foundation for a modern and secure way of working.
To support these renewed processes, Cargonaut has developed an innovative IT platform together with SmartLOXS. This central platform enables a drastic reduction in paper usage by implementing digital processes. This digitalization not only significantly reduces the risk of illicit activities but also enhances the controllability of processes and contributes to a more sustainable operation, in the broadest sense of the word.
With 'Secure Import,' Schiphol takes an important step towards a safer, more efficient, and more sustainable future for the air cargo industry.
Over the coming month, the IT platform will undergo extensive testing by the cargo community. After successful tests, the platform will be implemented at Schiphol.
