Schiphol is not your average airport. “Which other airport has a small museum where you can walk in? We want to tell a unique story”, says Maarten van Maaren. In 2020 he moved from media organization RTL to Schiphol Media, responsible for all the advertising space at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Eindhoven Airport and Rotterdam the Hague Airport.  

Van Maaren worked at RTL for almost ten years, among others, as head of brand partnerships and manger content and media strategy. What does he bring to Schiphol from the media world of RTL? “At RTL we saw a fragmentation of the media landscape, people watch less television. As a reaction to this we grew immensely online. As long as someone was consuming content on the RTL platform, we saw that as viewing time for RTL, whether it was a RTL news site or one of the related platforms like Buienradar or YouTube, it all counted as RTL viewing time”.
