Together with Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (LVNL) we have recently determined the provisional runway maintenance schedule for next year. Most notable is the major maintenance on the Kaagbaan Runway. Air traffic will make infrequent use of this runway during the first half of 2024. Please bear in mind that the following dates are still subject to change.
Every year, Schiphol carries out maintenance on the runways and surrounding taxiways in order to keep them in good condition. In addition to various forms of maintenance, the renewal of the landing systems by LVNL is also part of the works that need to be done.
When a runway is undergoing maintenance, it is not available for take-offs and landings. We therefore need to deploy other runways sometimes, and in some cases that requires a special exemption. That's why Schiphol and LVNL have submitted a request to the Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management (I&W) for a regulation in which this is defined.
I&W has asked an external agency to cast a critical eye over the schedule and corresponding lead times.
As soon as the 2024 maintenance schedule has been finalised, we'll communicate which runways are being used when.
