News  ยท  27 MarchBAS annual report: reports and air traffic rise in equal measure

The number of people reporting and the number of reports to the Local Community Contact Centre Schiphol (BAS) increased last operating year. This is shown in the latest annual report published by the information point for local residents. You can read more about it here.

The total number of flight movements increased by 8 per cent in the 2024 operating year, which ran from 1 November 2023 to 31 October 2024, compared to the 2023 operating year. This is equal to the increase in the number of people who reported, which increased by 8 per cent to 11,428. They made a total of 235,285 reports, an increase of almost 26 per cent over 2023.

Focus group

This concerns reporters from the so-called focus group. These are people who make one to a maximum of five hundred reports per operating year. The analyses and conclusions from the reports are based on this. The number of so-called frequent reporters (people who report more than five hundred reports per year) increased from 85 in 2023 to 95 in 2024, an increase of 12 percent. To prevent a distorted picture, frequent reporters are registered and monitored but not included in the annual report analysis.

Boeing 747-400

As in previous years, the Boeing 747-400 is the aircraft that received the most reports in 2024. The entire top 20 of flights with the most reports consists of flights that were carried out with this aircraft, which is only used for cargo flights at Schiphol. Incidentally, the number of flights with this aircraft type decreased by 18 percent in 2024. Various airlines are working on replacing the aircraft with modern, quieter aircraft. Fewer reports are being filed about the modern, quieter fleet.

Largest increase in the number of reporters

The largest increase in the number of reporters and reports came from the Buitenveldertbaan Runway cluster, and in particular from Muiden and Amstelveen. These residential areas had to deal with more landing traffic towards the Buitenveldertbaan in 2024. We had to use that runway more often because of the weather (westerly wind, poor visibility and showers) and because of the work on the Zwanenburgbaan Runway's landing system (ILS).

Better living environment

The annual report provides valuable information for Schiphol. The report gives us more insight into the nuisance experienced by local residents and helps us take measures to ensure a better living environment. One of the ways we are doing this is with the Minder Hinder programme that we implement together with LVNL. Would you like to know what else is included in the annual report? You can find the entire document here (in Dutch).
