The team behind the treats
When you think of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), you likely think of the sweet smell of fresh stroopwafels. And we’re proud to bring a taste of Dutch culture to every edition of Routes. But there’s more to know about the team responsible for Route and Business Development at AMS. So, when you stop by stand HNS82 for a stroopwafel, be sure to say hi to the team behind the treats.
Meet the Dutch (Sky) Masters
Wilco Sweijen and Marcel Lekkerkerk are Routes veterans. They’ve been part of AMS Route and Business Development for 22 and 19 years, respectively. And they attend Routes every year. This year, Wilco is even nominated for an Individual Leadership Award. Want to know anything about Route Development at AMS? Wilco and Marcel are your guys!
But that’s not the only star power on the team. Birgit Otto, Executive Vice President and COO at AMS is the lady behind our smooth operations. She’s got more than 15 years of experience at AMS. And she’s all about making connections. Be sure to say hello.
We even have an Aussie connection. Maaike van der Windt worked at Brisbane Airport for more than eight years before joining the AMS team. She helped Brisbane grow its network, and then brought that mentality to AMS.
And who’s that lady making sure the stroopwafels are warm and the team runs like a well-oiled machine? That’s Renske Green. She’s the communications guru who makes sure you get the latest scoop from Schiphol. And at Routes, she ensures the team doesn’t miss a beat.
Meet AMS
AMS’s mission is to ensure optimal links between the Netherlands and the world. For passengers and cargo. Our aim is to become Europe’s Preferred Airport and provide Top Connectivity, Excellent Visit Value, a Competitive Marketplace, Group Development and Sustainable and Safe Performance.
The 102 airlines we serve transported 71.7 million passengers and 1.57 million tonnes of cargo in 2019.
Now, about those stroopwafels…
This is the fifth year we’ve made fresh stroopwafels at Routes. The most stroopwafels we ever made was 1,138, on the second day of Chengdu Routes 2016.
Since 2014, we’ve also delivered 2,500 cans of stroopwafels to Routes guests’ hotel rooms. But fresh is always best, so be sure to stop by stand HNS82 for your own taste of the Dutch good life!
