The collective aquifer thermal energy storage (C-ATES) system on Evert van de Beekstraat (near the Schiphol building and adjacent Avioport) is being upgraded. ATES is a sustainable system that stores energy in the form of heat and cold in the ground. This significantly reduces the need for gas to heat buildings and allows for cooling with less energy in the summer, resulting in a substantial reduction in our CO₂ emissions.
The new C-ATES system on Evert van de Beekstraat is more energy-efficient and designed to accommodate multiple buildings. By the end of this year, the system will be operational, and we will connect The Outlook as the first building. The Schiphol building will follow in Q1 2025, with Avioport being connected later. Each building will have its own heat pump station. This will collectively save approximately 625,000 m³ of natural gas annually, equivalent to the consumption of 415 households.
Our goal is to ensure that all Schiphol Business District-owned buildings are gas-free by 2030.
