News  ·  27 FebruaryNew arrival passage at Koepelstraat a hive of activity

The new arrival passage at Koepelstraat was put into use on the morning of Monday 26 February. Crew transport and taxis ordered by app (such as Uber and Bolt) can now pick up their passengers along the Koepelstraat. The new passage from Plaza – behind Café Rembrandt – also allows passengers to easily reach the new arrivals passage.

The new arrivals passage at Koepelstraat was built to free up space on the current passage, in front of Jan Dellaertplein at Schiphol Plaza, for the renovation of the bus station. These subprojects are part of the MHS (Multimodal Hub Schiphol) project. After the summer, coaches will also transfer to Koepelstraat.

A hive of activity

Taxis ordered by app and buses for crew transport started to make use of location straight away on Monday morning and it was soon a hive of activity. Schiphol employees handed out stroopwaffles to the new visitors. “After three years of hard work, we opened to passengers today. The temporary bus station, also part of the MHS project (VBW A) was put into use last year and it is good to see that vehicles are now also driving here and passengers are walking around," says project manager Michel Hensens.

“We’ve made enough progress to be able to put the Koepelstraat into use, but not everything is completely ready yet. The traffic lights at the crossing on Skyportplein are not yet working, which is why traffic supervisors are now stationed there. The sanitary building is not yet completely finished, that will take a few weeks. And the connecting zone under the viaduct near the toilet building also still needs to be finished properly. In addition, we are still waiting for the tarp between the portals so that passengers can stay dry even when it rains, and the street furniture will be expanded in the coming months. It still looks a bit bare, but we are very pleased to see that the plans we devised a few years ago are proving to work. Passengers and drivers know how to find their way and this empty spot next to the control tower has been given a nice function after years of waiting.”
