Over the past few months, a lot of work has been done on building the A-pier. For example, the roof and glass facade, designed with sustainability as a high priority, have come a long way.
The total surface of the roof is equivalent to more than 23 tennis courts. On it, a heat-repellent and energy-efficient eco roof membrane will be laid.
This membrane is:
Non-toxic when installed and in case of fire
Easy to recycle
More environmentally friendly than normal roof coverings: less material and less energy is used during production
Solar panels will be installed on top of the roof’s technical area.
Rainwater that falls on the roof will be collected. It will be stored using a siphon system. This rainwater, together with water from the washbasins, will be used to flush the toilets. This means a 46% reduction in the consumption of drinking water.
