In 2019, one third of travellers at Schiphol were there to transfer to another flight. Some passengers have less than an hour to make their connection and have to go through the security and passport controls. A short connection can arise when there is an unexpected delay on the arriving flight, or when it is busy at the controls. To speed up the process of making a short connection, and make it more pleasant, Schiphol has developed the Short Connection Pass. Travellers with a short transfer time can use this pass to get through the controls faster.

Convenient for travellers and staff

Special Short Connection Units have been installed at two piers where many connecting passengers arrive. Travellers can scan their boarding pass and their connection time is calculated based on flight information. In the event of a short connection time, the unit prints out a pass. With this pass, travellers can use the Short Connection Lane and do not have to queue for the security and passport controls. This service also allows staff to identify and help travellers with short transfer times more easily. If a traveller scans their boarding pass but does not have a short transfer time, they will see a message saying that they have sufficient time to make their connecting flight. By introducing this service, Schiphol minimises the risk of delays for departing flights with many connecting passengers on board.

Short Connection Pass benefits:

  • Quick check to see if you are eligible for a fast connection service

  • Fast access to the security and passport controls in the event of a short transfer time

  • You are immediately recognisable to staff
