New destinations in 2023

As of spring 2023, you can fly to several new and well known destinations from Schiphol. We’ll be telling you about what’s on offer at some of these locations in this blog.

Beijing

After a three-year hiatus, Beijing is back as a destination. You can fly directly to Beijing’s largest airport – Beijing Capital Airport – with KLM, and China Southern will take you to Beijing Daxing airport located to the south of the city. Beijing is a great place to begin a tour around China, but has a lot of sights of its own too. You can wander around the Forbidden City for hours and several sections of the Great Wall can be found all over the city. The Temple of Heaven is the largest and best known temple complex, but the city has many others. Want to sample some local life? Head to the hutongs – traditional working class districts. You can try a bite of fried scorpion or snake at one of the many street food stalls. If you’re a little less adventurous when it comes to food, you’ll find more common dishes like Peking duck, dumplings and noodles pretty much anywhere.

Jersey

Is it England? Is it France? Jersey is a bit of both. Because although it is a British Crown dependency, the island is 22 kilometres from the French coast. So you will find both English and French influences there. For shops, interesting buildings and cosy pubs and restaurants look no further than the main town Saint Helier. Nature lovers can enjoy dramatic cliffs, crystal blue water and an abundance of plants and flowers while exploring the island on foot or by bicycle. If you’re there on 11 or 12 August, be sure to check out the Battle of Flowers – Jersey’s own flower parade. During this colourful spectacle, floats decorated with (paper) flowers drive by, there’s music and a moonlight parade with fireworks at the end. Foodies may want to try the ‘Big Four’ during their visit: lobster, oysters, Jersey Royal potatoes and Jersey cow dairy products.

Gazipasa

The Turkish Riviera boasts several lovely seaside resorts like Antalya and Izmir, but less well-known is Gazipasa. Only since the arrival of Gazipasa airport in 2010 has tourism here been on the rise. Not surprising then that Corendon will be flying directly to this coastal town from 23 April. Here, you can enjoy a sunny beach holiday with temperatures rarely dropping below 25 degrees. Don’t forget the sunscreen! Want to get up from your sun lounger? Not too far away you will find several ancient ruins from classical times, when the area was known as Selinus and Gazipasa was a well-known port city. If you fancy a bit more excitement, head to the internationally famous resort of Antalya, located 180 kilometres away.

Montreal

Air Canada already flies to Toronto year-round, but as of this summer they will also be flying to Montreal five times per week. Montreal is the largest francophone city outside of France (the largest being Paris), but pas de problème if you don’t speak much Français – most inhabitants are bilingual and speak English too. Montreal is the cultural hub of Quebec; lovers of theatre, music and museums will have a great time in the city. In the historic centre, Vieux-Montreal, you will find beautiful buildings, such as Notre Dame (no, not that one) and the old city hall. Something completely different is Underground City, a 33-kilometre long pedestrian network where you will find shops, hotels, restaurants and museums. Especially nice in the cold Canadian winters, but also worth a visit in the other seasons. Besides Air Canada, KLM and Air Transat also fly to Montreal from Schiphol Airport.

Extra flights to existing destinations

In addition to the (predominantly) new destinations above, we are also adding extra flights to existing destinations. As of 28 June, easyJet will fly to Mykonos in Greece twice a week. Play will take you to the Icelandic capital Reykjavik several times per week starting June 5. And you can fly directly from Schiphol to all London airports as of 24 May because from then on, easyJet will be flying to London Southend four times per week.
