Magical Christmas decorations at Schiphol
Lights, Christmas trees, baubles and presents. At the end of the year, the holiday season takes centre stage at Schiphol too. Many of our travellers fly to be with their loved ones during this special period. And with magical Christmas decorations and gift inspiration, we help get them into the festive spirit.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Making your own home look festive can sometimes take a lot of time and effort, but at Schiphol there’s even more work to do. Here, a whole team of people work hard for two weeks to hang everything up. Not surprising when you consider that we use five trailers of Christmas decorations!
The holiday season at Schiphol involves:
- 1,300 metres of garlands
- more than 10,000 baubles
- almost thirty Christmas trees all over the terminal
- presents in Christmas trees and on the ceiling
- over 200,000 energy-saving LED lights
After the holidays are over, everything is packed away and stored so that it can be used again the following year. Nice and sustainable!
Gift inspiration
Christmas means presents. After all, what’s better than surprising your loved ones with nice presents at this special time of year? If you’re looking for a last-minute gift when on your travels, Schiphol is the place to be. There’s plenty of present inspiration in all the shops at the airport, whether you’re searching for stocking-fillers or something exclusive and unique. Want a sneak peek? Find inspiration by looking through our festive gift guide.
Festive spirit
Flying from Schiphol in December? There’s more to enjoy than just the Christmas decorations! There will also be festively attired Christmas elves walking around in the lounges to get travellers even more into the festive spirit. They’ll be handing out presents that you can leave in the Christmas tree with a special message for a loved one. And for those who have worked up an appetite... the oliebollenkraam on Jan Dellaertplein (the large area in front of Plaza, where the bus stops are) is here again this year. Happy Holidays!
