Happiness at work, at Schiphol

Feeling happy at work is receiving worldwide attention this week. What brings happiness at work for Schiphol employees?

Ethlyn

‘I enjoy working with others, it energises me. So I’m in the right place at Schiphol.’ Ethyln has been working at Schiphol for almost 30 years. She’s had various positions and is now Customer Support Manager. When airlines have problems or questions, she is the first point of contact. Having the same employer for thirty years is quite something. Ethlyn: ‘That’s because I really enjoy it here. I’m often in the terminal for my work. Who else has a workplace like this? All those cheerful people, the international atmosphere. That’s unique!’

Gert Jan

‘Walking amongst the aircraft never gets old. It’s still exciting after all these years.’ Gert Jan is shift manager at the Schiphol fire brigade. ‘After 18 years, I still enjoy going to work every day. The variety, the challenges, the dynamics. No two days are the same. We work with great equipment; the large crash tenders are unique and impressive. My colleagues and I form a closely-knit team. I’d think twice before leaving this place.’

Shobha

'Schiphol is serious about sustainability, which makes me feel very content.’ Shobha is an IT architect. She is working on digital solutions that make the journey of passengers at Schiphol smoother and more relaxed. 'My passion is travelling. Being sustainable is my responsibility. Here I can combine both. We opt for sustainable solutions as much as possible. That's what makes Schiphol a great place to work.'
