New Dutch Horizons - Schiphol

A temporary art gallery at Schiphol AirportNew Dutch Horizons

Schiphol’s centrally located hall, Lounge 1, is currently being renovated. This offered an opportunity to create a special experience around the construction site for travelers: New Dutch Horizons, a 200-meter-long art gallery, where 19 Dutch artists share their vision of their homeland’s nature and culture.

Inspired by the point where land and sky meet, the artists created photographs, paintings, video art, and collages. The infinite horizon, at the center of each work, connects the different perspectives of the talented creators.

Through the calming power of art, New Dutch Horizons encourages visitors to pause and look beyond their own horizon. Schiphol wishes all its passengers an inspiring journey.

Fiona Lutjenhuis

Fiona Lutjenhuis was born in Zevenaar and studied at the art academy in Arnhem. She creates illustrations, publications, paintings, and animations. New Dutch Horizons features her work Early Bird. In this imaginative peat landscape, all sorts of typical Dutch birds – blackbirds, kingfishers, black-tailed godwits, spoonbills, and buzzards – fly around a vertical rainbow.

Jeroen Jongeleen

Jeroen Jongeleen grew up in the Netherlands and Suriname, and after wandering through the graffiti world and his military service, he ended up at art school. He creates works about our search for freedom and our relationship with the space around us. For this video work, Running In Circles / Polderland, he ran in circles for days, repeatedly jumping over a ditch reminiscent of a horizon.

Dion Rosina

Dion Rosina was born in Heemskerk and studied at the Breitner Academy. Since he was a teenager, he has been interested in his family history; his father was born and raised in Aruba, and his grandfather and ancestors in Curaçao. For this artwork, Legacy, Rosina painted a typical Curaçao country house, known for its distinct architecture and bright colors. Behind that colorful facade, however, lies a past that Rosina refers to with a gray mirror image.
